Mike Johnston & Jon Savage - 45 years of
friendship |
|

|
Lauren Halm and
Courtney Clem wanted to know something about veterans. So their folks
brought them out to Post 269 where they met Past Commanders R G Remus and
Raymond Young. They answered a lot of questions the young girls had about
veterans and the wars. The two girls then sent R G and Ray the picture
above with the note: "Thank you for your time and consideration. Thank
you for letting us interview you. We learned a lot of interesting facts
about the war."
Lauren and Courtney
declared April 25, 2003, as S.T.A.M.P. Day (Start To Appreciate More
Patriots) at Explorer Elementary School in Williamston. They asked
the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students to bring in a stamp and write a letter
of thanks to a veteran or a person currently serving in the military.
They felt that interviewing some veterans of previous wars would be a good
start to gain a better understanding what serving America and protecting
the Freedoms we enjoy is all about. They would like to encourage
everyone to take some time write a note of thanks to a veteran or someone
currently service in the military. |

Wayne McLellan
introduced Mary Nelson, Director of the Haslett Community Food Bank. She
thanked the members of the Post for their generous contributions over the years
to the Food Bank. She reviewed some of its history, where and how they get
their clients, and how many come from the various geographic areas around the
bank. She noted that the Food Bank had a substantial number of clients even
during the prosperous years. Now that the economy is in downturn their load is
increasing. They appreciate receiving money rather than goods because they able
to use it more effectively to obtain needed items at the least possible cost.
They are looking forward to caring for about 100 families and up to 140 children
for the Christmas Season. She concluded by again thanking Post 269 members for
their contributions. |
